  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

has anyone found that the extreme heat is causing messy cecals? charlies has been dreadful every morning and even throughout the day-he is only been having hay so i dont know what else it could be?:?

I have found this with my Dougal. He does go through phases where he has excess ones but its been a lot worse since the weather got hotter.

i had to trim his bum furr yesturday as i dont want his poop sticking everywhere. so he is in a right strop today...i dont blame him!

Yes - we go through this every year with Sweep, he is generally fine during winter and the minute there is some heat we start to see the excess caecals again :(

im glad its not just him then! he hates the heat, poor thing. at least since he is an indoor rabbit the cecals left in the morning cant get flies on them.nonetheless i think he is fed up with me poking around his nether regions to check for flies:oops:

same here, i have 2 'free range' bunnies during the day in the garden and hutched at night, we keep having to clean them up off the slabs in the garden
