  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worried about Oscar

posy

Young Bun
I went out about 30 mins ago to say good morning to the bunnies and give them fresh hay and water. Oscar normally comes running to say hello, but he was stretched out on his side. I gave him a fuss, his ears aren't too cold or warm and his tummy feels soft. I tried giving him his favourite treat, but he didn't want that either. I sat out with them for a bit, he got up a couple of times and had a bit of a wash, but he then stretched out again. It is very windy here and there is a lot of rattling and banging things because of it, so I am not sure if the wind is freaking him out, but he has coped fine in heavy winds before.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
I am also trying to get through to the emergency vet, but no one is answering the phone!!

You could try giving him some tummy rubs.Try get him moving too, could you let him have a run in the garden or the house?
Hope he feels better soon x

Thank you both for replying.

I bought Oscar and Lexi in so I could keep an eye on him, he has eaten a couple of pellets, munched some hay and is currently legging it up and down the hallway!!

It is hard to tell whether he has pooped much overnight as Lexi has a habit of digging in the litter tray :-/ but there is plenty lying around, more than what one bunny would produce overnight.

Just watching and waiting for him to poop. He isn't keen on loud noises and, although he is normally ok with the wind, it must have been that.

Try not to worry, sounds like he is picking up a bit:) keep an eye on him and hopefully he will get back to normal.
I know it's important to use vets promptly with rabbits if something is wrong, but it is also my experience that rabbits are pretty resilient and sometimes given some time will sort themselves out, depending what the problem is of course:)

Thanks for your reply, Honey Monster. Oscar seems fine now :) He has eaten loads of hay, pooped normal poos and had great fun hopping up and down the stairs and binkying up and down the hallway!!
