Wise Old Thumper
One of our gorgeous huge pond goldfish failed to come and greet us this morning. We had had him since a baby (about and inch long!) and he (and his 'brothers') have all grown in the last 6 years or so to be whoppers of about 10inches.
However a few months ago on a very hot day we found him struggling on his side at the top of the pond - Steve kept him vertical for about an hour holding him in the water, and we played water/oxygen on the surface to cool and oxygenate it and he survived - but recently he has been always near the top and seemed to find it an effort to stay down.
The pool has tons of oxygen etc and the other fish are all fine - so we think his swim bladder was damaged in the summer perhaps. We had been worried that being near the top would be an issue once the cold weather came.
He was the one I chose when we bought them - bright gold with a splash of pure white on his body above his front fins.
We will miss him -
