Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Broken nail

New Kit
Hi,

One of my rabbits was running about outside today and suddenly she stopped and was holding her front left paw up. She sat there for a while and then carried on running about and playing as normal. Every so often she just kept stopping and holding her paw up.

When I picked her up and looked it looks like she has broken one of her nails. The end is all jagged and it has a crack going up the middle slightly.

She can still run very fast, jump, eat and everything as usual.

Any advice? Does she need to go to a vet? Is it the nail that is causing her problems or could there be another problem.

Thanks

Gemma

Difficult to say without seeing it. Ill be honest if it was one of my own I would probably keep an eye on it but without seeing it I would suggest a vets trip to be on the safe side
