Hi all, I joined the forum after trying to find info on dry eye. I have 7 buns, my latest additon is a 10 month old broken orange rex male. I have had him for a couple of months, had him neutered, no probs.
A couple of weeks ago I noticed he kept blinking his left eye and keeping it half shut, off to the vets and vet thought he has entropion in his left eye and begining on his right eye (eyelashed curling into his eye). Off I went with anti-biotics for a week to rule out infection, plan to surgically treat eyelids if no joy.
Back this week, no change, then she did a tear test only to find he has NO tears in either eye. Bone dry, both of them. Curious as I am sure when I first got him his eyes were big and wide and normal. He does have entropion but the vet wonders if this is caused by the dry eye pulling the lid into his eye.
He is on eye drops to try and comfort his eyes while she contacts the specialist to discuss, she has never seen a bun with dry eye. What worries me is that he has also had a couple episodes of stasis/bloat over the past couple weeks (treated with metoclopramide, infacol and metacam as one of my old rex was so prone to stasis the vet gave me the kit to treat at home) and from some of the theads on this forum this may be a sign of a disease called dysautonomia, which I have never heard of.
Does anybody have experience of either condition? Many thanks, Sue.
