  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neutering question...

On another thread I had I said how awful I felt that I couldn't have Sox neutered because there's no way he can come inside(my mums allergic, and its her house)and there's no-where else he could stay :( a few people said leave him outside because he'll be fine...

so would I be able to leave him outside after his neuter? Or is it just a no-no? It would obviously be when the warmer weather comes in, when would it be warm enough?
If he can't stay outside, do vets ever keep buns in overnight after neuters?

I want to get him done ASAP, but unfortunately there is no way I can have him inside :( But he's not extremely hormonal or anything, I just hate seeing him alone

Thanks guys :)x

it's getting warmer anyway, i would say that with a snugglesafe as long as you monitor him, he will be fine outside.

if you pay extra the vets will keep him overnight for you - but it depends on the vet whether this is a good option. some don't have a nightnurse, so wouldn't know til the morning if there was a problem - you'd need to ask them :)

Okay thanks :D do you know when it might be warm enough?
I think I'd rather have him home with me, if no-one was going to be watching him:|. (Plus I'd worry faaaar too much )

i couldn't tell you when it's going to be warm enough, someone should be along soon to tell you when would be best :)

it's not all vets - many (probably most) do have night-staff on. it's just some that don't :)

I reckon he'll be fine once its warm outside, as long as the hutch is nice and clean. Plus if it's warm and you pick a weekend, you can sit outside for longer to keep an eye on him.
I'm sure I read that it's warm enough to put buns out end of April, so I'd imagine that'd be ok okay time for him tobe done too? Not 100% on that though

Okay, thanks you :)
whether there's staff there or not, I think I'd still worry too much  but if that's the only option and the vet says that's best I'll let him stay obvs.

My vet doesnt have an overnight nurse on duty. He takes animals home with him if needed. He wont leave them alone in the surgery. Ask your vet if he/she can help.

His hutch is in a shed, so I spose its a little bit warmer, I wouldn't leave him outside if he was JUST in a hutch!
I was planning on getting him done near the weekend, but someone said on here that their vets don't do ops at weekends :? I don't see why not though.

I don't think my vet would take them home, I think they *might* do overnightpeople though. But I'm pretty sure he won't take him home(its a companion care one in pets at home, idont think they do that). :/
