Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have a new addition, he is gorgeous. I've called him Jeremy- see here

I found him in P@H in York, hes been in the rehoming centre for 5 weeks, because they think he is allergic to woodshavings. He is sniffeling and sneezing with a bit of a wet nose. I'm taking him to the vet first thing for check up and vaccs. I have him in my bedroom, bedded on paper cat litter (rabbit safe) with hay in the litter tray. Hes well away from the other buns and I'm making sure to wash my hands before handling them. Wondered if anyone has any advice? If he is ill I'm going to challenge P@H for the vets fees but I couldn't just leave him there, little mite.

I got one of mine from pah and he is allergic to sawdust. I took him back to the shop and they gave me a free voucher for a check up with companion care who confirmed the sawdust allergy, took him off it and within a week there were no more sneezes and sniffles!

Good luck, adorable picture!

The vet wouldn't vaccinate due to the sneezing and she said she thinks it seems much more like a virus than an allergy, especially given he's been on cat litter for weeks.
However, I think I may have found a contributing/potential causal factor???
I have noticed he wasn't hardly drinking anything although I heard him at the bottle quite regularly. I cant fin anything wrong with the bottle water comes out ok when I used my finger on the end. Anyway I gave him a BOWL of water yesterday morning and he drank the full lot. So he drank approx 800mls yesterday and another 200 this morning, and touch wood I've not heard him sneeze since teatime yesterday.

fingers crossed XX
