  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New home at 6 weeks

New Kit
I have 4 babies who are 5 1/2 weeks old and have been weaned since 4 weeks due to mum having another litter. Are they ok to go to their new homes next week or is it best to keep until 8 weeks. They are housed away from mum for week and a half now and are all eating and drinking well. My friend is taking two and is yet to tell her 9 year old daughter as she will want them straight away i have no problem keeping them if they have to stay. They are both the result of accidents and male is now neutered and housed separate.

I do not know much about baby bunnies but I would think 8 months is the right time to let them go to their new home.
I would not advise it straight away as your girly will still have pretty strong hormoans but have you thought that as your male is now neutered that maybe you could marry them?

8 weeks and ideally 10.

They need their immune systems to develop as much as possible and the longer they are with you (especially because they were separated from mum so early), the better.

At 8 weeks you can separate them into genders, and then if you keep them until 10 weeks they will be stable at that, which is probably the best you can hope for.

Agree with Sky-O

Thanks I will keep them just now. Getting quite attached to them now as they are very affectionate and jump all over us.
