  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Yeast infections

We don't have any specifics yet. We are having a swab taken and sent off tomorrow. But a yeast infection was all the specialist could come up with after Summers eye op failed. My vets are at a loss, so refered her on :?

I just wondered how it would be treated differently compared to the usual types of eye infections?

In humans I think treatment might be with systemic antifungal medication eg Fluconazole and antifungal eye drops eg one containing Nystatin. I dont know if the same would apply with Rabbits :?

Might nebulising with F10 help? It would be far more passive than nebulisers are intended for, but in a good misty chamber it might prove to be of some assistance alongside other therapy.

EDIT-Ignore previous post, I get your drift now !!

Well we are back from the vets even more confused, as is vet :?

Summers ulcer has spontaneously disappeared again :? She had the op, it healed well. A week later it returned, it was checked and measured last Thursday by the vet. We have given it no treatment in the meantime as waiting to see what the specialist advised. Took her in this morning for the swab to be taken and eye has completely healed again

The vet is completely mystified

So I guess we wait and see if it returns. Thanks for the replies
