  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is this an emergency?? - U/D all sorted

I'm giving Grim injections at home for his abscesses and my first one was today... which ended in disaster.

I put the needle in him, drew it back and as I pushed it in the whole thing exploded. He's fine, not even bothered a bit, but my other half is allergic to penicillin so that was a major clean up.

Anyway, do I need to ring the emergency vets to get another injection for him (that was my only one)? He had to have it today.

Sorry not sure where you were putting needle? is it going in skin or mouth?
We were told when injecting angel to fill with med then press it out to relieve pressure and make sure no air trapped as you dont want this injected into her. use a bit of wet cotton wool to seperate skin and pinch a bit to insert needle this allows you too see clearly. When you press needle into skin make sure no blood shows as this would mean you have hit vein which you dont want then inject it in take out rub skin to make sure its moved around and not stuck in one section under skin. Sorry if this sounds stupid

Thanks. :)

I phoned them and went and got another one which went fine. It's going in his skin, not his mouth, but it's so thick and the first needle was really thin and as I went to inject it it just exploded. But he's had his medicine now and lots of treats. :)
