Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Upper respiratory tract infection question?

Please can someone give me some advice on what abx has kept their bunnies stable.Blue,as all my contis carries the staph bacteria,he has had bouts of snuffles in the past after having his myxi jab. This has always been controlled after a course of abx.He had his vaccine in March and ever since has had snuffles which has been treated with Engemycin, this worked for a while then the sneezing came back with a vengeance.I have been treating him for the last couple of weeks with Chloranphenicol eye drops but he is meant to have them 3-6 times a day and Its very hard chasing a bun around the garden then catching him to administer eye drops without stressing him out,so he is not getting as many as he needs.
My question is,Blue needs to be on abx for life and I dont want to be jabbing him with a needle every day as this will stress him out. Please could someone tell me a safe oral effective abx which would be suitable?
P.S Blue has always done well on ceporex. Is it safe to give orally?

I have very limited knowledge, so this is probably more of a bump of your thread, but have you tried Zithromax? I had a friend with a Beveran (also a big bunny) who had a URI and with the Zithromax he improved no end and has now been symptoms free pretty much for 6 six months. Having said that, I don't know if Staph is sensitive to Zithi or not.

I didn't think it was, but I read on another post not so long ago about someone giving oral cephalosporins :?

Have you tried nebulising antibiotics yet? alongside the others of course.

I also read this in another post but I have always been lead to believe that cephalosporins should be given via injection and if I go down this route it means two a day.TBH after jabbing myself the other day by accident I can now see why Blue hates it when I go near him with a needle.
I havent tried nebulising yet,I really want to try other options before going down this road.

Where I work there is a bunny with on and off upper resp. tract infections and we have treated him very successfully with Convenia injections. The injections last for two weeks and he usually needs only 2 injections before his snuffles settle down.

Hope you find something that works for your bun!
Cerys :)
