Worried

Young Bun
Ive been reading the threads on here and i am very concerned about this rabbit that i am going to give a home to.
I did think this morning that i would leave him where he is for now untill i have done some research and he's in no danger where he is but..................
I know the lad who has this bunny and he works long hours and after reading the post on flystrike i am now really worried because i know that he wont be checking him.
The amount of flies round here is hurendeous as i expect it is everywhere else.
This is the situation i am in.
I can pick the bunny up any time right this minute if i like, but i only have a small out door hutch, the hutch the rabbit lives in at the moment is a good size but i will have to arrange to get a van to pick it up which wont be untill the weekend.
I have a run for the piggies which he could go into ( without piggies in it of coarse) and i dont mind him having the run of the house.
I feel really anxious I know the circumstances here are not ideal at this very moment but would that be better than risking this little bunnys health due to these flies???
what would you do in my possition????

how about buying a cheap dog crate and setting it up inside you can get tehm for around 10-40 pounds on ebay and that would keep him happy until you can get his hutch across or where abouts are you prehaps one of us can lend you something for time being? x

Provided you can give him somewhere warm and weatherproof to sleep, and keep him cool in the hot weather, give him space to play whether it be your house, garden or even just a piggy run (with no piggies) for a few days - I would take him now if you are allowed to and have permission to. I would also take him to a vet for a thorough check over on your way home! Good luck and well done you :D
p.s you will need to take his current food so it's not suddenly changed, and give him lots of lovely fresh hay and water.
He may also need his vaccinations??

Well off i went to get the Rabbit, and when i got there it had just been raining and now the sun was blazing. there were wacking big blue bottles around and huge stripey flies and lots of smaller flies buzzing round.
As i looked at him i thought my god i have got to get you out of here, his eyes looked gunkie and his claws were so long that they were twisting.
The run is on concrete with hay and straw lining the bottom but instead of being cleaned out more hay and straw had been layered over the top. It must of been a foot thick.
Well for love nor money i couldnt get near him, he would come for a sniff but then ran away. After about 4o minutes i thought this isnt going to work.
So i ended up locking him in his sleeping area where i just gentally stroked him and talked to him, picked him up but he wasnt having any of it. So i just sat taliking to him some more gently stroking and then tried picking him up again, this time he let me hold him for a couple of seconds and then struggled free. repeated the same and on the 3rd attempt i picked him up and put him in the carrier. 1 1/2 hour it took but i wasnt going to give up.
Took him straight to our local vets who specialise in small animals she checked him over cut his nails, checked his heart and tummy and bottom said he was healthy but he stank. fortunately for me i have a cold and couldnt smell a thing.
No conjunctivitis but she told me to bathe his eyes and give him a bath, his fur is a bit matty.
He really is a lovely boy sat on my lap as good as gold as i bathed his eyes.
Now he is relaxing in the hutch.
I will take some pics but leaving him to settle for a bit.

Well done for taking this bunny in. You are a star being so patient with him. Keep an eye that he is eating and pooing plenty as somethimes a change of home can upset them.

Congratulations on becoming a new bunny mummy!

Well hes had cuddle time this evening and although he hasnt been handled he seems to be getting used to it very quickly.
At the moment he is sitting on my hubbies shoulder watching tv.
I bet he is happier not having that stinky hutch.
The vet asked about his ear cos he has one that sticks up and one that flops down. I havent seen him hold it up yet.
She said it may be due to nerve damage.
we have decided to call him floppy.

Well done you, Floppy seems much happier:D I've seen lots of buns on here with one ear up and one down, I don't necessarily think it's due to damage.
