  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

help red wee

Rabbits can get red wee from various things in their diet, dandelion leaves, carrots etc. Have they had anything new or different in the past 24 hours?

Is all the wee red or are there streaky bits of red in it? Is it fresh wee or has it been 'sitting' for a while?

How are they acting in themselves?

If you are concerned then you can get a vet to check them out.

nothing new in diet but the wee is fresh!!
not streaky
they eat loads of fresh greens
could it be that??
if so what should i do??

I had this before with lottie and george, i rushed them to the vet to be told anything from grass to dandelions can give them red wee :) Red wee is normal as such, as long as it isnt blood :?

I know its hard to tell but i believe if it had blood in its kinda streaky?? Not a whole pool as such :) Jacks Jane would be the best to ask :) xXx

If its not blood then it healthy and ok for them to have red wee. The blood, I believe, tends to pool, or looks streaky and is apparnetly very obviosuly blood. Obviously pure blood would be bright red. Personally I think it sounds like something has done this to them, like food, as opposed to an illness, because its happened to them both, at the same time.

Having said that, if you are concerned, then get them checked by your vet. :)
