  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

And it continues ... the neutered bun.

Young Bun
Oh my, so like I have posted before, my bun got neutered Friday morning, I let him out of his house a bit on Saturday night and he has been out for a good part of today.

Well, I haven't wanted to stress him out by trying to look at the area to make sure everything looked good, but today I did for a second, and I'm actually wondering if that's how it is supposed to look? I mean, I know what a cat neuter looks like, and usually you can't really see the incision. Well, I can definitely see the one on the left, it is a U shape almost? And it is about, I would guess 1/6 - 1/8 of an inch wide? Both testicles are swollen, but not terribly red, is that normal?

I am calling the vet in the morning, but am wondering if it is more urgent? I think it may hurt him as well, as he is acting painful. Is pain medication regularly prescribed for a bun after surgery? I think we always sent kitties home on Metacam at the hospital I worked at.

*sigh* always something!

There Can Be Swelling After A Male Neuter ...some Do Some Dont ...

If There Is Swelling Then Yes Pain Relief Would Be Good ...we Use Metacam For Our Buns .
If You Are Worried Def Ring The Vets In The Morning . ;)

Thanks, that put me at ease! I phoned the vet this morning and they gave him some pain medication. Torbutrol none the less! I was expecting Metacam!

It was a bit of a challenge to give it to him, as he is not wanting to be touched TOO much since he's hurting :( I hope it makes him feel better!

Oh, and it's THREE times a day! Phew!
