Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

hello i got my male rabbit about 5months ago from pets at home,he was in the adoption part because they struggled to sell him... i didnt think nothing of it and adopted him.we got him home and he started to settle.A couple of days later he started to chew his hutch so i came up with a solution which worked out nicely... but now 5 months down the line he still doesnt like being picked up and gets jellouse of out other male rabbit, he is very dominate and is only happy when he gets the run of the house. He has also been castrated and this has not changed his mood or behavior. Is it possible that they didnt do the op right? can anyone give me some pointers in trying to let him be handled and keeping him amused??

thanks.

Hiya. I've never really noticed a big change in my bunnies behaviour once they'd been castrated. So the op has probably been done properly. I think you just need to invest a lot of time and patience in this bunny. I think some rabbits take to handling better than others. I have two rescues that don't like to be handled except when i really have to to give them health checks. So all i do for them is give them a nice big run and leave them in peace. Though in the past year or so i've made some progress as they will let me stroke them occassionally.
I'd try hand feeding him some nice treats and wait for him to come to you. Eventually he won't see you as such a threat and will perhaps allow you to stroke him. Picking him up all the time will probably just frighten him even more.
Don't worry too much about him bullying your other rabbit. Mine are always chasing each other around but it never results in anything serious. Its just natural rabbit behaviour.
Hope this helps
Helen

This is what should be explained to owners when they get their pets neutered it's the same for cats dogs and rabbits; when you get your pet neutered it can take 6-8weeks for the hormone levels to calm down so you don't see any instant changes and the other thing is neutering only helps if the issues are related to hormones behavioural issues will not be rectified by neutering-you may just have a naughty bunny on your hands!

Is your other male an unneutered buck by any chance, as this could also cause your new bun to be acting territorial?

If this isn't the case then it is just a case of spending lots of time socialising him, but it may just be his nature!

I have three boys. One is a grumpy little whotsit (nethie) who will lunge and bite one minute and sit cuddled in my arms the next, one who is as mad as a hatter (giant), and a blue eyed white who would happily sit in my pocket all day and is the most loving little rabbit ever.

my other buck is neutered, i couldn't put them together because fry(the rabbit with the problem) nips and pulls fur out of my other buck....i did attempt to pair them before lee was neutered thinking he was a female(thats what i was told when i got him!)i'm guessing that wasnt helpful!!!but they get on ok with bars between them just not when they are together....i'm now begining to think that he is just a naughty rabbit. He seems to like everything on his terms....maybe thats just the way it should be.Also fry was neutered about 3months ago now.
