  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Injecting

It's not in a vein is it? if it's not in a vein you're fine. When you put the needle under the skin, pull it back to make sure you've not hit a vein, if the needle draws up blood discard and start again.

It was a nightmare when I was injecting kermit with stemetil!
He hated every millisecond of it!

I had air bubbles in the syringe on occasion....was fine

Yeah shes getting really upset too :( She isnt gonna get better without it though so we'd both better get used to it! X

practice getting the liquid in the syringe without air bubbles - it is worthwhile as bubbles could make the measurements incorrect :)

Ive been injecting Bugsy twice daily for three weeks now and at first he hated it.Hes now got used to it and lets me get on with it.

Maizey youre lucky!
Kermit used to go nuts.....i finally had to get him in a towel, then try to leave a wee space at the back to get where i could inject, then sneak the syringe in....he still used to wriggle out of the towel then run away and try to scratch where ive just injected him!
