Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Panacur. for e.cuniculi

Mama Doe
Hello everyone.
My bunny Milo is currently 3/4 of the way through a course of Panacur for e,cuniculi. He has permanent headtilt from his first infection when he was very young and this is the third time he has had it. Because of the headtilt and the fact that he is quite big I use the liquid Panacur for puppies and kittens rather than the one for rabbits which is a paste, with my vets permission, as this is easier to administer.
However I realised today that the Panacur paste is 18% Fenbendazole and the puppy/kitten version which I use is just 10% Fenbendazole.:shock:I'm wondering if this is the reason for his repeated infections. We just aren't knocking it back enough. I used to use Lapisole for another rabbit I had years ago which is liquid and for rabbits but you can't seem to get it any more.
He is definately improving on the 10% version and usually starts to feel better after a week but of course I continue dosing for 28 days.
I'm not sure whether to get the paste and start the course again with that but to be honest I think I would really struggle to give it to him.
Any ideas gratefully recieved! thanks

The dose for fenbendazole is 20mg/kg

When using the Panacur 10% liquid this means a dose of 0.2ml/kg. If you have been giving him 0.2ml/kg then he’s been having the correct dose

I never use the paste, I always use the 10% Liquid :)

I also use the 10% liquid Panacur at the dose given above. I found the paste too fiddly, unreliable amounts dispensed and much more expensive. I would just keep going, but check that you are giving the corret amount.

Thanks for this! I realised after my little panic that it's all about the dose per weight rather than the percentage strength! My vet worked out the dose and she won't have made a mistake! Thanks again
I prefer the liquid because I find the paste difficult to dose especially with his headtilt. Lapizole was nice and straight forward. It's a shame it isn't still available because evidently it was very palatable!

I agree that the paste is a pain to administer !

Also, the dosing is far less accurate.

And of course it works out to be far more expensive than the liquid, especially when treating multiple Rabbits. I have just looked up the price of the paste now…..

It's ridiculous! The liquid is cheaper and so much easier!
