  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have just been checking roger over and giving his nails a trim when i stroked the side of his face i felt what felt like spots on closer inspection i found little scabs i have checked him all over and there only on both cheeks but no where else does anyone have any idea why he has these scabs there but no where else he is not scratching anymore than usual

Thanks

Are they amongst his whiskers? Are there any on his genitals? I just posted a thread about syphillis so I have it on the brain now

There just above his whiskers and stop before his ears everywhere else looks as normal

Could it just be oil from folicals?...they're not scabs as such, just hard little lumps of black crust which stick around the base of the fur near the skin. Some of my buns get them, but it's never caused any problems.

Hi amy not sure really as they do look like scabs some look abit like dandruff scabs  will you have a look for me when you nxt come over to bring milly back see what you think :D

There like a white colour :? I've been feeling all the other rabbits faces and can't feel any on them :? just on roger

Some of my buns get these from time to time too. Do they feel like a small whisker shaft? My vets said they were oil/secreations from the sebacious glands and nothing to worry about unless they got itchy or bothered the buns. I try to pick them off if they're not too stuck.
