  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just been out to see the rabbits & Rhia was just laid there in her own wee. She never wee's outside the litter tray. Didnt get up to see me when I came, which is always a sure sign something is wrong. Her eyes were partly closed and her ears are cold. Wouldnt eat the pellets i gave her. Lifted her up onto her feet and she ran away grunting into the carrier. Dashed in to get dressed and call someone to take us to hte vets. Gone back out again and shes sat up next to daniel, taken a pelltet from me and seems a lot better. she kind of sunk into her self when i stroked her and ears are stol;l cold. any idesd what is wronmh? I have been wroried about how tired shes been getting recently & added to how stressed she gets when we go to the vets (she just collapses) the vet suggested last night that we run some bloods. Im shakimg like crazy, any ideas?? Im assuming its still best to get her to the vets even though shes pickimh up a bit. my vet is off and the vet shes told me to see if she isnt there can see her at 3.40 x

Ive just been out to see her and she is sat eating newspaper like its food?! She has never done this before

Poor thing. I would get her looked at hun, even if its only for your piece of mind. If she's been off colour alot lately maybe bloods is the way to go. I believe bunnies use their ears as a cooling mechanism, same way that dogs pant (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so the fact they are cold may not be related to her illness. Either way any slight indication a bun isn't their normal self is always worth checking out just to be on the safe side. Hope she's ok, Vibes.

I have a bun that eats newspaper - I restrict how much he has contact with, cos it could cause a blockage.

She sounds like she could be in pain? Maybe vet can give her a pain killer & show you how to administer it yourself?

i dont suppose there's any chance the vet would do the bloods at home? :? or would that be impractical/too expensive?

I think it was the stress of going to the vet for bloods that did for Poppy, :( - she was fine before and died two hours afterwards - although she was probably further advanced in her illness than Rhia. thinking of you both.

She is booked in for 3.40, its a long way as its not my normal vets. Called my Mum & she thinks that it might make her more poorly carting her on a long car journey considering how she gets. Shes not been off colour at all really, its just that she gets very tired after running in the garden, which came on suddenly, she used to be able to go for hours but now after 10 mins she just flops. Just been to check her again and if i'd seen her like this earlier i'd not have thought anything was wrong. Definately still going to take her to the vets though as you say for piece of mind. Unless shes made a miraculous recovery, in which case i'll probably take her to our normal vet tomorrow x

Angie she has never eaten newspaper before, literally just started in the last ten minutes :? I suppose the bloods could be done at home, shes insured thank god so cost isnt an issue. I will talk to our vet tomorrow when shes back in about that x

Becki when Rhia has these 'episodes' is she ever floppy? I'm wondering if she has some form of dietray deficiency or malabsorbtion.

Just a thought.

Episodes like htis morning? Or when shes in the car/vets? This is the first time shes been like this. She is sometimes floppy and cant seem to stand, which is when she wee's on herself. She also has wee around the base of her ear???!! X

And has that happened a few times?

Can you bring her and Daniel inside for a bit? I did that with Snoopy when he looked poorly, and he started running around and got better. I think the current weather can cause a lot of problems with bunnies. Damp, cool and with thundertstorms lurking above the sea. Not a good mix.

Good luck and lots of vibes.
