  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help needed excessive urination messy-Earls in trouble:(

Please if anyone can help-were so worried about our Earl (the little boy we recued a couple of weeks ago) :(

He has started to urinate excessively...his bum and feet are soaking wet and it STINKS so bad, this isnt normal. Hes also spraying constantly despite having been neutered now. I realise it takes a while for them to calm down but this really is like hes just peeing absolutely ALL the time. His poo's are also abnormal-all wet and a bit misshapen (but theyre not caecotrophs) The smell of this urine is so unlike anything weve experienced before, were really so worried:(

Hes straight to the vet tomorrow morning but if anyone has any advice in the meantime itd be so appreciated

Thank you

He may have a urinary tract infection which will need antibiotic treatment. If he is actually urinary incontinent then it would be a good idea to treat him with a 6 week course of Fenbendazole (Panacur) to cover any risk of EC
If he was only neutered recently then it may be that the proceedure has just set off an infection that should respond well to a course of abx. Taking a sample of his wee to the Vet tomorrow would be helpful

Good Luck

Janex :)

I was going to suggest the same as Jane, sounds like a urine infection, poor little boy, is he walking OK? and steady on his feet?

Hes walking fine...running around madly infact, binkying, the lot:? Seems steady...just a bit crazy, and always spraying...but then hes been like that from day 1

Ill let you know how it goes tomorrow

That's good if there are no other symptoms, lets hope it's something that can be cleared up quickly with antibiotics, poor little boy he has been through so much in the last few weeks.

Mind you, his craziness might be because he so young and full of beans and he can smell the other bunnies and probably wants to play.

Keep us posted and good luck at the vets

I would go with the urine infection as well at the moment - a course of anitbios will help as will feeding him some yarrow - that is really good for urine problems :)

Vibes being sent from here :)
