  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Clipped Molly's nails. Hit the quick!!!

Hi
We clipped Molly's nails as her nails were the only ones that needed doing. The first few were fine until she twitched and we hit the quick. It didn't stream blood or even drip, just blood at the end. I put her back in her hutch for it to clot and about half an hour later, I put her into her run, which is muddy at the mo from all the rain. Did I do the right thing?

Also, the girls have caught hay mites again and have the poo all over their coat. Should I get a brush to get rid of it, or just wait until the girls have cleaned it off themselves?

definitely clean the poos. When my bun have the rare case of sticky poos on her fur, I wet that little spot w/ water and get rid of the poos, if there is a little bit that stick, I cut that little bit of fur off

as the broken nail, dip it in clean water a few times a day, to make sure the end is clean
