Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I've noticed recently that she's been licking her dewlap an awful lot, but i just thought she liked licking it seeing as she likes licking everything else! Anyways, when I went to fuss her this morning, I noticed it was really sore where she usually licked it. I managed to get hold of her and bring her inside for closer inspection, and it's bald, red, swollen & hard. Is this an absess? What can I do to help her? Does she need to get it checked at the vets? She's fine in her self, she's her normal mischevous, thick self (she stole my Mum's newspaper) My cat had an absess in February and the only way we found out about it was when it burst and left a massive hole in his chest. Eek! Is this gonna happen to Biscuit too?!

Poor bunny, she's always got something up with her :( She needs her tear ducts flushing again too :(

Do you mean her entire dewlap is hard, swollen and red? She needs to be checked by the vet. I think most times when we ask ourselves "should I see a vet?"..we most definitely should. Better safe than sorry.

My lionel's got an abcess and we didn't notice until it burst either which was really horrible then he had to stay at the vet for 8 days so i think it would be best to get it checked sooner rather than later to avoid more trauma like we had!

I've just checked it again, and it's actually under her chin, so maybe, she's been marking her scent on something and caught it.

I'm gonna get her at the vets. I just know our vet is gonna say "What's she done now?!"

Update!

So I got her to the vets this afternoon, and thankfully, it was our regular guy - YEY!
He had a good look at her, and it's not an absess thankfully, but it's a "hot spot" as he called it. He said she could've caught it on something which made it sore, and because she's been licking it and licking it, she's made it worse, and because it's got worse she's gonna keep licking it. It's a vicious circle :(
He gave her an anti-inflamatory injection, and we have this cream/gell stuff to put on it - Fuciderm gel.
Problem is, we're supposed to put it on her twice a day, and it takes us about 5 minutes to actually get it on her. It's in such an awkward spot. But as soon as we get it on, we need to rub it in, which hurts her because it's so sore. And then, she just ends up licking the gel straight off!!

My poor bunny. She's always got something wrong with her. She doesn't deserve this.

The cream is an antibiotic. Maybe try a collar for half an hour after applying . He might forget about the cream and just be relieved the collar has been removed. :D

I did suggest we try a collar on her, but with it being just under her chin, it could be a bit awkward. It might rub and continue to make it sore
