Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

As some of you are aware, I'm hoping to have Jill's (honeybunny's) Candy and Henry:

As you can see, Candy's a bit 'cuddly'. I know Jill will give me advice, but anybody got any good tips for helping her lose weight?

I've put Benny on a diet at the moment as he was getting a bit porky - he only gets a slice of carrot, and just a few pellets morning and evening - just over a teaspoon full - and normal greens and hay as they're not fattening. The weight has come off him in a couple of weeks but he does get in a strop when his dish is empty - not a problem if they're outside but could be with an indoor bunny so I'd just give her another handful of hay when she strops about it - they really love fresh hay and it keeps them occupied for a while too.

Cool, I've got a few things to put hay in as well, a special ball, and some cardboard tubes. I really want to help her lose weight, cos she's such a beautiful bun, and she's had a hard life, and she deserves to look her best, specially with a new man in her life ;) ;) Thanks for the advice guys!!

My big frenchie has successfully shed the pounds this year mainly by cutting down on her pellets and giving her lots of free range exercise in the garden:D
