  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My dad cleaned out the buns today and when i got home from work he told me that a flea jumped on him from inside Rosie and Leo's hutch:shock:

We've check all the buns and the cat throughly and found no more - thank god. Where could it have come from? Gea (cat) killed a mouse yesterday and hid it under a tree and I didn't find it until the buns had already been out. So it could have come from that or the squirrel in the garden. I've rung the vets and booked Rosie and Leo in for their Myxi on Wednesday - they are not due yet but I'm now so worried. i also noticed Leo had a bit of a runny eye which I'm hoping is just from the wind today.

The others had theirs done during the summer. It was also on central news tonight about Mxyi in the notts area, they were at a vet who had seen 10cases of Myxi today:(

Really worried now.:(

It may have just jumped into the hutch from a passing cat :D If you have checked them all properly and not found any just keep an eye on them for a week or so :D

I use Assisi Natural Grooming Lotion on my buns once a week, it repels fleas and doesnt contain any chemicals :D The bottle lasts ages and I promise it works because we had a problem with cats with fleas coming into our garden and I havent found one flea on my bunnies since I started using it :D

You can get it here, just click on for animals then grooming :D

Thanks - I have a look at that. I think it might have come from the cat as she's always outside. She is not infested so I think it might have just be a rogue flea. Just been doing some reading on Mxyi and I'm worried about Leo's runny eye now. I hope I'm stressing over nothing. I'll see what it's like in the morning and change the vet appointment if necessary.
