Sudden change in behaviour

An acquaintance has a 6yr old neutered male giant who has always been a happy laid back house rabbit. Nothing has changed in the household recently so she's at a loss why he has suddenly started nipping her. It's not a defensive thing, as he usually goes for her ankles, and from behind..often when she's just sitting down. There doesn't appear to be any health issues either. Could this be an age thing? Opinions and suggestions more than welcome.

Has his sight been checked?

If it is an age thing it has to be related to something else such as pain from arthritis or pain from something else :?

Does the owner smell different? (could be washing powder, or conditioner, or perfume, or body spray, or shower gel or anything like that or as Jane says, health issues can do it too)
