  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

TRIMMING

Blossom_Flora

Young Bun
Should i cut my bunnies claws, how long is too long? I heard that their teeth can grow too long too but how do i know if they're too long and if they need a trip to the vet for them trimming?

The only way to check there teeth is usually to have your vet do it for you. If you keep bunny on a good diet of pellets, hay and fresh veg you shouldn't get any teeth problems unless they are genetic. XX

The only time a rabbit needs its teeth trimmed is when it has a malloclusion which can be genetic, due to a head injury, or a bacterial infection in the gums. a rabbits teeth don't line up so as they grow they don't grind eachother down. Your vet needs to check for that as well as the back teeth.

I would go to the vet and watch them trim the nails. If your bunny has dark nails than have the vet do it every time. If your rabbit has light nails than you should be able to trim them without hitting the quick since you will be able to see them.

Hope I helped!
