  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Blood Glucose Monitor

Can anyone point me in the direction of the correct monitor I need. With many vets doing video consults I'd like to be able to give them as much info as possible if the worst happens. Thanks.

Yep that sort of thing but was hoping for one more affordable.
Hopefully someone else might have a suggestion then, my Vet just said that's the one she uses and recommended at the time :)

A client at work said she bought one from Boots for her diabetic cat, her at home readings match ours at work. Not sure about the cost but she said it was reasonable, not sure if they have any online?

If you have any diabetic friends, they may let you have an old one - just check that you can still get the test strips for it.

The problem with them are the test strips. They are so expensive! They always used to be anyway.

So far as I know any blood glucose monitor will be okay. I asked if my local pharmacy stocked them, which they didn't but got me one the next day. It was £12 and has 20 test strips.
