Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Converting dog and cat metacam dosage

SarahP

Specifically I am looking to compare a dosage of 0.28 ml dog metacam and 0.4 ml cat metacam.

If anyone knows the maths, I'd be very grateful :)

The dog metacam is 3x as concentrated as the cat one. So: dog x 3 = cat if you are working in ml.
In your example, 0.28 ml of dog metacam would be equivalent to 0.84 ml cat metacam.

However, you may find it difficult to measure it to that degree of accuracy, even with a 1ml syringe.

Thanks so much :) It's OK, I don't need to actually provide this dosage, I just needed to compare two different dosages/types of Metacam given by two different vets for the same animal.

The dose rate for rabbits can vary quite a lot and it depends on many factors, so there could be good reasons why the prescribed dose differs between prescriptions, even for the same animal. You can always query it with your vet.
