Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Plumpkin - Farewell

Thinking of you today and sending loads of vibes for Plumpkin. I really hope that the specialist can help.

Also sending you lots of hugs as this will be a stressful day.

Hello everyone,

I have an update. Sonya was amazing. She is the best vet I have ever spoken with. Her knowledge and competence was so impressive.

She said that Plumpkin has the worst teeth she has ever seen, hands down. She said there is very little chance that we can do anything for her but that a CT scan will give us closure. It is highly likely that she will have to be PTS. Sonya said that even after two weeks, there are more spurs digging into her mouth.

We have left for a couple of hours while the scan happens. OH and I have had a good cry. Sonya said that Plumpkin would definiely be dead by now if it weren't for us.

I'm trying to focus on the positives. She got to feel our love and the love of two other bunnies. She got to run around and sunbathe. She got to try tasty brambles and coriander.

I'm preparing myself for the worst because I need to be ready if it comes.

Oh my baby girl Plumpkin ! There is no doubt you've given her a truly wonderful life in every single respect & without you she wouldn't have survived. I'm in awe of you both, brave girlies. I'm pleased you met Sonia; I hope this will help give you peace in whatever happens to Plumpkin xxxx

I’m so sorry:cry: whatever happens next, you have done your absolute best for her and I hope that the specialists opinion and the scan will help to confirm that. I’m sending lots of vibes and hugs xx

I am sorry that the news is so bleak (((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))) xx

I'm glad you had such a thorough consultation with Sonya, but I'm incredibly sorry the prognosis is so bleak. I think you're right to focus on the positives for now. It's thanks to you that Plumpkin had the kind of life that she deserved, which sadly many buns from her circumstances never get to enjoy.

Sending millions of nose rubs for Plumpkin and hugs for you xx

Oh I am so desperately sad for you all :(

I echo all what others have said. I am so pleased that you have taken Plumpkin to see Sonya and that you were impressed with her competence. She has had very many good times with you and her two buddies and those good times will continue until you make a decision regarding her future.

The other positive you have neglected to mention is her fabulous green smoothies  I will never forget the photos of her beautiful "green face"

Sending you and your OH lots of hugs.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.

We are on the train home now - probably won't get back until 5.30. It has been an extremely long and exhausting day.

Plumpkin has had a full dental on top of everything else. She has a pink bandage on her ear from the catheter which looks adorable.

We now have to wait a couple of days to hear from Sonya about CT scan results.

I'll type up the full report we were given on her condition earlier if anyone might be interested.

Right now we're just thinking to make the most of our time with her.

Honestly, I wasn't really expecting things to take this turn. I knew the situation in her mouth was grim but it is so much worse than we imagined. She had rotting matter in her mouth which had to be flushed out.

I really appreciate having this support on the forum. It means the world to me.

Every moment you have with brave Plumpkin will be extremely special. I hope that she can remain as comfortable as possible for as long as possible. I am just so sorry that you are having to face this very, very sad situation xx

I’m sorry that the situation is so bleak, but I’m glad that you have been able to bring her home with you. I hope that she will be comfortable for as long as possible.

Sending lots more vibes and hugs xx

Enjoy your time with your beautiful brave girlie. I bet she'll feel much better after todays dental & having all the rotten stuff. She should be in a good place to enjoy some really special time with Bea, Ham, you & OH. It makes so much difference having confidence in your vet even if they can't fix the problem.

I'd be really interested to hear her report.

Smoothie time real soon plumpkin. how was she with travel? xxx

We just got off the phone with the specialist. CT scan is extremely bleak. Her teeth have pushed into her nasal cavity, she has extra teeth growing under old teeth pushing them upwards. Her enamel has completely gone - vet says she has never ever seen this on a rabbit before. It is extremely bad.

We will be saying goodbye these next couple of days. We are both crying on the train of course.

I know that Plumpkin touched everyone's hearts on here. Thank you so much for your support.
