Bill the duck

OH found a duck on the railway tracks at work. RSPCA were closed so we looked after him overnight on Saturday. He didnt seem too hurt and we thought he'd be able to be fixed up and released. He had some painkillers with us and food and water and slept in the bath overnight. Yesterday we took him to the RSPCA wildlife centre and after a few hours they phoned us to say that sadly he was being PTS. He had been hit by a train and had a fractured spine, broken wing and punctured lung so would never walk again.

Oh had names him Bill. We had done all we could but at least his suffering ended. The vet said she was very shocked ha had lasted so long already. :(

Poor duck  How incredible is their will to survive though, that with all that was so badly broken in him he still managed to have some food and drink with you last night.

Oh bless, he sounds like he was a tough little guy. So sorry he never made it though, glad he had some caring time with you though xx

Poor Bill :( I always say ducks are super resilient and it sounds like Bill was no different - I'm sure if his injuries hadn't been irreparable he'd have cured up just fine :(

At least he didn't die all alone on the railway tracks though, he was made comfortable and then humanely pts which was the best case scenario in this situation.
