Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Baby rabbit special poos

Betsy is 9 weeks old. I have just changed her hay tray and it was very smelly with some soft poos in it. She is eating well and seems ok. Could it be too much veg? I have been giving her a small amount of veg daily but maybe it too much for such a young rabbit (not had a baby in a while so not used to how much to give them). Could it also be the change of food? I use excel (she has been having adult, should I get the baby one?) she had pellets before but I am not sure of the brand. She eats plenty of hay.

Probably too many diet changes to soon. Was she fed any veg previously? If not you'll need to introduce one at a time slowly.

At the moment I would stop feeding them completely and try hay and pellets only to see if you can get her poops back on track.

Thanks. I never actually checked if she had had veg previously, so that might be the problem. She had been having small amounts of grass but I will stop all and see if it improves. She likes her hay. I may also be giving her too many pellets (anither problem with not having had a baby for a long while) so I'll cut those down too

Are you giving her Panacur? I've often found that causes problems, it was a big issue for Dinky. I remember JJ explaining to me that the cecotrophes probably taste different so she's not eating them.

Good spot, I forgot about the other thread.

No I have t started to work her yet. I will be using lapizole. I plan on starting her in it in the next day or two, I was just waiting for a few days following her injections just in case they made her feel a bit off. I felt a bit mean giving her so much medicine in one go.
