  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Blood in urine. contains queasy photos!

Wise Old Thumper
I have included the photos we took for the vet as they may be of interest to some. But it did make me feel a bit ill at the time, but probably as I was worried about Prince more than anything.

Yesterday afternoon we found quite a significant amount of blood in Prince's urine including large jelly clots. We rushed him straight to the emergency vet who was excellent with him and spent 1.5 hours with him. He thinks it is due to bladder inflammation but as yet we do not know the cause of the inflammation :( Prince is currently on a high dose of metacam, after having bloods run to check kidney function among other things, to keep him comfortable until he can have further diagnostics with our usual vet tomorrow.

Poor Prince lost his partner just two weeks ago. He went into stasis with his grief for a few days and now this  The plan was to bond him tomorrow but now that has to be put on hold. He is just a baby at only 2.5 years old. A few good wishes that this is a simple fix would be appreciated. Thanks

So sorry that Prince is not well, sounds like you have a good vet though. Sending healing vibes his way, hope he picks up soon :love:

Poor Prince :( Sending tonnes of vibes that a simple cause is found and sorted quickly for him. xxxx

Thank you for the few replies for Prince. Sadly he was pts this afternoon. We struggled to get a diagnosis despite doing every diagnostic possible, but today we finally discovered a huge problem with his kidneys. We also consulted with an exotics referral vet and they confirmed there was nothing we can do.

To say I am heartbroken is an understatement :cry::cry:

Oh Liz...I am so very sorry to see this update. ((((((Huge hugs)))))) You did the best for him that you could.
Sweet Dreams, Prince  xxxx
