You think its hard convincing owners....

Yeah I think i've said my piece now, I don't want to ram it down her throat! I doubt she'll change but at least I have tried.
We're doing some rabbit awareness week stuff at uni so maybe she'll turn up and see I'm not a raving looney after all!

 No your not, I think it's easy to feel like that when you might aswell be banging your head against a brick wall, you are right, she sounds a bit dim tbh and isn't really getting the 'concept' of the bigger picture which is sadly synonymous with breeders a lot of the time, not necessarily a bad person but just unable to grasp that her involvement does make a difference, I'm most surprised about her because of her chosen vocation, I'm sure she'll see the light eventually. Taking her to a rescue might work, she might have a conscience when she see's the scale of animals waiting for homing. Good luck - well done for trying, I think your going to be angel for rabbit kind.

I'm going to be a tyrannical rabbit vet!:lol::lol: If i go into mixed practice (that's the plan) I hope to be able to run rabbit clinics such that most of the rabbit work comes to me, rather than being spread across the vets, so that I can monitor progress and stuff (but also teach the others! :D).
I have plans to instigate a questionnaire system for all rabbit clients as a baseline in terms of accommodation, feeding, etc and then work through it with each client to make improvements.
I also want to do evening sessions for kids with their parents and teenagers on how to care for each major species, so they know what they are getting into and what they need.
But I think I am going to be quite strict in terms of advice, you have to adapt your style to what the client will respond to but I won't take any prisoners!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

To be honest there's definately a 'gap' in the market for a few rabbit specialist vets, you'll be able to share and edcuate so many people it will be very rewarding I'd imagine, I think once your established you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference through being invited to speak at seminars/conferences etc Who knows you might end up training exotics vets one day or better still change the curriculum for 'ordinary' vets so it incorporates much more about rabbits.:)

I'd LOVE to do some rabbit lecturing at uni, might be doing some in the next few months just to cover the basics for the lower years (very scary!) but definitely would like to be affiliated with a vet school or two and do electives or lectures in specific areas.

You have tried you best and keepign on about it prob won't do any good, she sounds stubborn and won't want to lose face by backing down.

Hopefully she will change her position in the long term when she gets more experience/knowledge of how things are.

Even if she puts on a professional "front" when working for clients, I still wouldn't be happy with her as my vet, as I'd feel her actions and advice weren't genuine. But I guess no one is perfect especially when young, there is time for her to develop yet. I know I'm ashamed of some of the opinions I used to have!

Psssst - when you've qualifid, come and work here! I could do with a few more rabbit-friendly vets :)

I guess its hard to tell when a vet is giving genuine heart-felt advice and when they are just toeing the party line? I don't know as I am no good a lying!

I spoke with one of the clinical skills centre nurses today, who volunteers at the Rabbit Residence, and she had emailed her as well with direct regard to unnecessary breeding and rescues being over-full, so I guess she has had it from at least 2 people! You nevr know, with time she might change
