Worried about Walter...U/D P27

Aww bless Walter  He is so handsome

Im glad he doesnt seem any worse, as Denise as said, many buns cope well with head tilt :) Sending lots of noserubs for your boy xXx

Sorry Joanne, only just seen this:oops:

Sending loads of vibes to him, and hope he gets better soon:love:

I'm glad the vet prescribed the depocillin this was given to Tilley and a course of panacur, glad to say she's fine now.

Poor Walter still isn't looking any better. Infact, when we took him to the vets yesterday he seemed to get all dizzy when we picked him up and started rolling upside down :( He's fine hopping around on the floor though, but his head does look a bit more tilted, though still not really bad.

The vet says that his left ear looks to have an infection in it, and as he has no other symptoms she doesn't think its EC related, though we are carrying on with the panacur anyways.

We've stopped the depocillin and metacam for now, so he's just on panacur and bayrtil at home. I think taking him to the vets was stressing him out so will see how he goes this week. Obviously if he gets worse we'll take him back sooner, but we've got an appointment next saturday again.

Oh Joanne I'm sorry that Walter doesn't seem any better  It's heartbreaking to see them like this I know

We tried Zithromax (a human abx that's not licensed for use in animals) & stemetil (a human anti sickness drug) after several weeks of baytril, depocillin & steroid injections. He had a weeks worth of the Zithromax, the stemetil he had I think for about 2-3 weeks. The stemetil is supposed to help with the rolling episodes, as Wilson's were horrendous at one point  I know it's so hard not to get upset but they can adapt with time, to living happily with a tilted head.

Bunny Mad Lisa's bun also survived really bad headtilt - if you look up a website that she put the link on Wilson's thread for, called On the Wonk - it's a site dedicated to people living with head tilt buns.

Wilson used to get so stressed going to the vets & would always go into a rolling episode - but when we'd get him back home, he would soon come round & be ok. It's the travelling that upsets them & their balance

I know it's easier said than done, but if Walter is doing everything a bun should do - like eating, drinking, pooing & washing - then he's fighting this the best he can. Quite often it can be more distressing to us than them

If you want to ask me anything or to chat about Walter just pm me - I'm also more than happy to pm you my telephone number if you'd rather speak.

Sending lots more vibes for brave Walter to carry on battling xxx

Ive just noticed this thread.
Vibes for your wee bunster getting better.

My Kermit had really bad head tilt but managed fine with it.....he is unfortunately at the bridge now, but he was a wee star.

Kermit used to roll alot when we were going to the vets, same as Wilson.
But then when i got him back home he would run round the table like a mad man!

I hope Walter gets better, it is hard to see them with a squinty head, but they do manage really well!

Been back to the vets again today. She suggested that we could do xrays or an MRI or bloodtests, but that none of these would really change how we are treating him. He's still fine (eating, drinking, pooing, running around, destroying stuff) and his weight is exactly the same as it was 2 weeks ago. So we've just decided to carry on for the next few weeks and see how he gets on. Though now we have depocillin to inject at home 3 times a week as well as the baytril 2 times a day. He's going to love us! Though he was very good and the vets and sat still for ages.

I asked her about Zithromax, but she said she'd never heard of it, or heard of it being used in rabbits.

Hi Joh, glad Walter is still going on ok - bless him, he's such a sweetheart  We were offered xrays & an MRS etc but decided that no matter what it showed, like you it wouldn't change his treatment etc. Hopefully the depocillin will help a lot.

I know your vet might not have heard of Zithromax - neither had our vet until I mentioned it. We originally mentioned it to another vet at our practice, as our's Jane, was on holiday. She was very dismissive & wouldn't listen to us why we wanted to try it etc - in fact it was her that basically told us we were being cruel keeping Wilson alive :? So much so I put in a complaint about her. When Jane came back from leave, she was much more receptive & even though she hadn't used Zithromax before in buns - she was happy to let us try provided we understood they're were obviously potentially side effects as it was unlicencsed for use in animals.

Our own vet also tried to speak with Frances Harcourt Brown in Harrogate, as well as speaking with another rabbit specialist vet in Leeds. I also asked them to speak with the Bristol rabbit clinic for advice.

Hope Walter contiues to improve & if he's doing everything a bunny should be doing, then he sounds like he's going in the right direction. Sending lots more vibes for Walter - let us know how he goes on xx
