Female biting buck's eye

PRidley

New Kit
We've been bonding two rabbits for a while now, Gilbert is our buck at about 6yrs old and we got a female Daisy after his companion Polly passed away.

At the beginning Daisy was quite violent so we had to separate. We thought they were bonded after a few months because they were grooming each other but Daisy bit his eye and the injury isn't good. Now she's bit him again through the separating cage after he's put his head down to be groomed. She seems to bite because he won't groom her and wants to be dominant, was dominant previously.

Is there anything we can do to stop her biting him? Huge risk to be bitten in the eye.

Has the previous injury been checked by a Vet ?

You will need to make more space between their accommodation so that she cannot continue to bite him.

How did you go about the bonding at the start ?

Yes, we are getting vet care, thanks.
They have a large 6ft shed and 6ft by 14 ft run accessible by two cat flaps. We then subdivided with wire pen panels. We had to swap to larger ones after Daisy got over and beat Gilbert up.
We had them swapping sides each day and supervised petting where they would be absolutely fine. Even now they groom each other but she won't stop biting when he doesn't groom her.

We've now had to put a second layer of barrier so she can't nip through it. Gilbert puts his head down to be groomed and she will nip him. Its all fine until she bites his eye.

Bonding needs to be done in an area that is neutral to both Rabbits. There’s some useful information on here
