Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worms in rabbits

Lord Trellis

So recently some of my birds contracted a worm infection which are being treated with medication from the vets. I want to keep a look out for signs of worms in my bunnies I know there might not be any obvious symptoms. I want to check them for worms or look for any signs that they might have worms. Are there any specific things rabbits do when they have worms? would they show in there droppings?

I think I'm good. There are no worms in there droppings but I will continue to monitor any signs just as a precaution.

Rabbits don't tend to get worms and it seems to be mainly Pin worms if they do get them but it's good to check the litter tray every day.

My rabbits eat a lot, like when I give hay or treats they go at it like they haven't been fed for a month and its all gone in less than an hour, that made me think think they might have worms too but there all good. Lamb Chop is the only one who doesn't eat everything all in one go.

The birds probably already had worms when I got them. The thing about worms is that they can lay dormant for a long time inside an animal. I'll keep my eye open for pin worms. It was the tape worm that was more of a concern.
