Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worms and soft mucousy stools ?

Gloopy

New Kit
Found soft stools in my 12 week olds rabbits house this morning, thought it was just due to him eating too many pellets and having some sprouts yesterday but when I went to clean up I noticed worms, like the little pinworms that dogs can get. I have panacur at home that I use to treat my dogs and tortoise, I can’t get to a vets today so I was wondering whether I should start giving him Panacur now to see if he improves or wait until after a vet sees him ?? (I feel bad doing nothing though) Also he’s still eating, drinking and running around to play so I was wondering whether worms are known to cause bad stools or whether it’s likely that he has worms AND another problem??? Which would be just my luck.

dear gloopy,-what you are describing requires immediate attention-from a exotic dvm.--mushy poops/cecos is one thing but worms is another.-the dvm will prescribe the proper meds,-for each problem..i suspect coccidiosis, and worms,..that requires immediate attention,as well as an exam.- http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/poop.html and http://www.medirabbit.com sincerely james waller from the other kent-usa:love::wave:

I would not recommend you give him any Panacur until you have seen your Vet as he is very young. Also I wouldn't give him Sprouts at this age, just stick to pellets and hay until he is better. How long have you had him and have you changed his food at all?

I would not administer Panacur without consulting a Vet, especially as he is only 12 weeks of age. I'd get him to the Vet ASAP and take a poo sample with you. In the meantime just feed him lots of hay and make sure he is drinking. He certainly needs to see a Vet today
