Who are your buns insured with?

Well, in the T&Cs they say it can go up each year because the cost of veterinary treatment increases. Though I did read on another board I've been using for years that cat and dog owners said their premiums didn't go up. Guess I'll just see what happens. My poilcy has a 10% discount for the first year in any case.
But they do say this:

They only offer the Covered for Life policy for Rabbits; there aren't a range of options as there are for cats and dogs.

I have used pet plan for years as it is one of the best however it is also one of the most expensive. I always have cover for life too. The dog insurance depends on breed and from my experience it increases every year, they charge a lot more for what they call select breeds with dogs. When any dog reaches a certain age though they have an excess plus 20% of the total bill.

Have you made a claim yet Ali ? I am waiting for the claim forms to arrive.

I paid £78.00 for the year for Cutie-pie with Pets at Home. This was the only company that would insure her as she is over 5 years old. The excess is £75.00.

Thanks goodness I did, the vet bill for last Sunday night and Monday is £497.00.

No. I haven't claimed yet but those who have said that there have been no problems with claims. I am sure it will be fine!

Im going to show this to hubby...he is unsure about getting insurance but that kind of bill would be a nightmare!! :?

Its definately worth it. I had none of my 5 animals insured. 2 bunnies and 3 chinchillas.

My Nancy bunny cost us around £620.00 in February. Sadly she passed away at the vets.

Then a few months later my Babydarling chinchilla got ill. All up around £1,500.00. We went to 3 different vets before we were referred to an exotic vets. He is fine now but it took a few months, with the right treatment.

After that I got 3 of my animals insured. Can't get the oldest 2 chinchillas insured because of their age now and I only missed out by a few months.

I'm finding it hard to find a company to insure my 2 bunnies as they are 6 and 7 :? I'm thinking of putting a bit away each week for " just in case,"

Ohh just looking around for vets in our area and I found one that offers~
For the single annual payment of £80 we will provide your bunny with 2 FREE six monthly health checks, 2 myxomatosis vaccines, a single annual VHD vaccine and a tube of Panacur Rabbit wormer. Insured clients also will receive 25% discount.

I curently pay £23 per vacc so £69 per bun per year in vaccs with health checks and any worming on top. The 25% off for insured rabbits is pretty nice too!! :thumb:

D&D are with Pets@Home life cover about £6.50 each and I put £25 into their savings account each month!

I hope so. They are not fast in getting the forms out. If not here by Monday I will phone them again.

I found they were slow at sending the form out too. They were also a bit useless on the continuation of Artie's claim re his kidney remova, though they were quick on the initial claim. For the second claim they had sent it to the underwriters to pay but told me the cheque had been sent out. When I contacted them again a week later I was told the accurate story. They did pay out, which was the main thing and I'm so grateful I had the insurance. Artie has cost abut £2k in the last year and thanks to P@H insurance I've got £1k of it back.

I have 6 rabbits insured with Pet Plan and 2 with P@H. Artie is with P@H because he was over 5 when I decided to insure him and I moved Rudy to P@H on renewal because he has a long list of exclusions so I'd rather pay £78 to P@H for more basc insurance than approx £120 pa to Pet Plan for very little cover (he has pre-existing gastro-intestinal and dental issues).

Pets at Home are the only company that insure bunnies over 5. I got both insured at the age of 5 and 9. £78.00 something each for the life/continuing insurance, for the year.

Sunshine passed away before the 10 day period. It was refunded.

Its only been over 3 months and making my first claim.

Worth getting rather than saving up. I know, like Sunshine they can pass away suddenly but then Cutie-pie got very ill very quickly and needed to stay overnight at an emergency vets.

I really believe that 2 things happen, you never use it or suddenly get a whopping great big bill.

Thanks for the information. I assume that don't pay out for any dental problems or any of the pet insurers.

Did Pets at Home not pay out all the £2,000 ?

Buckley is with petplan (we got a 2 month free insurance thing and they had a bigger vet bill allowance) but he was sick before we got him, so his snuffles is excluded. As is any upper respiratory problem. Which I will be disputing as if he gets something horrible like bunny throat cancer (god forbid) that is nothing to do with the snuffles then I don't see why it should be excluded.
So far we've spent over £300 at the vets (excluding vaccinations). But it's never been one big lump sum and as our vet doesn't need to see Buckley every time, we don't pay consultation fees as often.

Im with p@h, I havent maid a claim as such but when I notified them of Maes death they have refunded me my most recent monthly installment and are giving me the £40 it cost me to "buy" Mae. Which will cover her cremation :)

I have life time cover for the buns with p@hfor £6.50 each a month. Im currently going through a claim at the moment for £439 and they have been really fab. If anything its my vets that are holding it up  i can definatly recommend them. The claims line and very helpful and friendly but it can be a bit of a wait to get through sometimes

Did Pets at Home not pay out all the £2,000 ?

Some of the £2,000 cost this year was for pre-existing problems 1 x £200 for stasis episode and about £400 for related to bladder sludge. His new issue of kidney stones leading to kidney removal cost £1400 - they paid out all £1000 of the cover, he was on the annual cover only as I made a mistake when buying. However, god forbid, if he developed a new condition I still have another £1k to go at as it's £1k per condition for the year not £1k in total.

Oh no, maybe I haven't read my policy properly. £1,000 doesn't go far.

I never knew statis was a pre existing condition.

If you paid £78 for life cover then you have £1,500 cover, that's what I've got for Rudy, I made a mistake and bought annual for Artie but didn't change it as I would have had to cancel it and wait the 10 day period again.

Fairly certain I got the life cover.

When I think of my aunts cat I was looking after, her bill came to £5,000. All tests etc. £3,000 was on the specialist. My aunt was covered.
