  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I'm in a pickle! I think I know what the answers will be from you guys but really need to work it out!

Matilda gave birth to one big baby on saturday night, no afew days before and continueing after shes had some discharge i THINK from her lady bits, just yellow wee looking type stuff, but dosn't really smell like normal wee!

I have been feeding her more food and veg since the birth, and sometimes this can give her a jippy tummy, but i don't think its tht cos her poos are all nice and formed!

I'm gona see if I can get her an appt today! but do I risk taking her, and stressing her out, so she may reject the baby!

and what will they do, ay if a baby is stuck/dead inside her etc, will she need an operation, if she does, what on earth is gona happen the the baby, hand feeding??

just need to weigh out the pros and cons! but obv I want tilds to be okay! and will try my hardest to keep the baby alive to! x

I would think that if there is a baby dead inside her then it will have to come out asap, so i would suggest taking her to the vets soon.

I dunno about this, but could you take her baby with you to the vets? Just make the carrier cosy for them? So that she has baby snuggled with her?

I was thinking about this to, but then Tilda would know, 'I've seen her baby' and might kill it, shes never seen me go in he nest, so i spose she still thinks the baby is hidden x

Mmmmm, it is hard, cos if she really is ill then she would need to see a vet :( Your vets dont happen to do house calls?

don't think they do, hmmm might ring them and see what they suggest! as to whether shes okay to be taken away from the baby, for the vets x

Definitely Vets. If she has a retained kit then it could well be FATAL for her

Leave the live Kit in the nest when you take Matilda to the Vet. *If* she requires surgery you will need to discuss with your Vet re your options for the live Kit.

Good luck xx

This is what I said last night. IMO she should have gone last night. If it is a retained baby or babies then the longer left the more dangerous to mum and live baby.

If you know the answer from here would be see the vet why are you not already trying??

the vets sed there reli no point in coming in as discharge cn happen upto a week after but ive demanded an appointment!! so going in umm 10mins best get dressed!

Is your vet specifically trained in rabbits? I would be worried that they only have the basic knowledge from training and no further specialist training in rabbits/exotics. Ask them? It will put your mind at rest, that they do know what they are talking about. But I would be questioning them if they said that its the rabbits fault it wasn't clean

Discharge and and one baby litters are not uncommon, but as they are not the norm, I would be so so worried by now. I would pay the consulation fee, just to be told she was ok and health, and there was no retained babies or residing infections.

Off to vets now Hopefully all ok, Emma throwing on some clothes as appt 9.45 she will updae you when we get back

Emma's mum x

Emma, if you get any probs with your vets you could try ringing Golden Valley. My normal vet is David who is at the Nailsea branch but he really is very good with rabbits.
