  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

treatment for ear mites

Don't talk to me about ear mites! I think this is the 6th time Coco has had them. :censored:

The vets always prescribe Xeno spot on and I have used the Beapher spot on from P@H too as it has the same active ingredient (Ivermectin) but is cheaper. I did a longer treatment (every 2 weeks for 6 weeks) last time and they seemed to clear completely. But the little ******* are back!!!
I'm reluctant to go back to the vets to get the same response, so done research on other sites and many people say that drops and olive oil are more effective so am trying some herbally drops this time - I'm at the end of my teather with them and they give me the creeps! Horrible things. :(

PS - he's indoors, clean surroundings and tried various hays but can't get to the bottom of them coming back. :?

Ive used Ivomectin for ferrets ears.A drop or 2 in ears and then again a week later.I use stronghold now.(Not patented for ferts but vets use the stuff).
Dont know bout bunnies.
May i ask...are bunny ear mites the same guys that ferts get?? They burrow and give ferts "The Staggers".Not very nice at all.........

I know you can put a couple of drops into guinea pigs ears but wasn't sure about rabbits . I am not sure if they get the same ear mites because
" species specific " keeps croping up but to be honest i dont think the mites are going to care where they get their meal from ;) . My rabbit doesn't seem to be off balance but i have heard it to cause problems like that . I have started with canaural so dont think i can do that now ?

my vet suggested xeno but this is only a spot on , i have ivomec here because i do my pigs with it but i can only put it on the back of the neck not inject it . So would putting it on topical not kill the ear mites ?

You can give Ivomec orally for bunnies. I don't know if it's the best way to treat ear mites, but it's safe anyway.
