Sawdust chew toy - pets at home

Hey all. I was at p@h the other day to pick up some litter and I came across these carrot shaped chew toys
https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/pets-at-home-edible-gnaw-carrot-small-animal-chew

For £1 I thought I'd give them a shot and picked up a couple. The buns ended up going wild for them and I was curious as to why, so went to see if they had the ingredients listed and its 76% sawdust. Some reviews point this out as being bad for small animals. Are these actually unsafe for rabbits?

Yea my rabbits go nuts for them too, I don't give them anymore though, because I'm pretty sure they're unsafe

I wouldn’t use them either. It’s infuriating when pet shops label stuff as ok for rabbits when they aren’t suitable. Dried sweetcorn is another bad one. Best sticking to Safe forage and branches Imo

they're sawdust with honey mixed in from my understanding, which is why they like it so much :/ its very sweet. its why they go nuts over them usually.

We had a bad gi episode after bun scoffed a whole one as she loved sweet things.

Had no idea until then, our vet actually reported it as she felt it shouldn't be sold for buns.

We stick to the note natural toys now although the firm favourite is the very plastic ball with bell in. Rodney uses it to cal for his dinner...

It may be safe for rabbits if your pet knows what he likes and will only eat what he likes. It is best to look at https://www.esaregistration.org/faq/ to know exactly what percentage of sawdust should be there. But rabbits vary too and breeders similarly prefer to give advice on care. If it's not important, you should take an all-purpose one. The best way is to ask the breeder where the rabbit was raised. Or follow general recommendations.
