sorry if this has already been posted, just had this email
Further reports have been received in the last few days of outbreaks of myxomatosis in Shoeburyness/Southend,Essex, Dewsbury,West Yorkshire, Solihull, West Midlands and in several parts of Kent.
No doubt members are very much ware of the dangers of this dreadful disease and the need to vaccinate on a six monthly basis. However, each month new rabbit owners join the association and the first alert service, so we would like to advise them to ensure that their bunnies vaccinations are up to date. Please remind everyone who owns a rabbit and also remind them that an annual vaccination for Viral Haemorrhagic Disease ( VHD or HVD) is just as important.
Rabbits can be vaccinated against myxomatosis from 6 weeks of age and for VHD, anytime between 10-12 weeks. The UK vaccines are not licensed for use together : the manufacturers advise a 14 day gap.
For further information or if you would like a copy of The RWF leaflet “ Deadly, but preventable” please contact the help line 0844 3246090
