Rusting Runs

Floppylop

Young Bun
Might be a silly question, but I use metal runs for my bunnies, I dont like moving them in and out with the weather, but the biggest problem is that they rust, even the ones that are supposed to be stainless steel etc. does anyone use anything to 'treat' them against this, would like to use something but wary that anything suitable might be poisonous for rabbits

I would just put each panel on something solid and scrub them down with a wire brush to remove any loose rust. You could always paint the wire with something like Hammerite or its variations (there's a smooth version as well), but it's going to be a fiddly and messy job. A brush would probably be the better option and coat sparingly so it dries properly, but spray versions are also available. Hammerite can go straight on rusted metal. Some paints may not stick if there's any of the original galvanised coating left.

Lidl has tins of metal paint in at the moment. I used some a couple of years ago to refurbish an old metal bench. It was good to use, although maybe not as hardwearing a finish as Hammerite as it's a bit 'plasticy' rather than just 'hard'.
