  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rescued bunny, weepy eye, otherwise healthy

Hello team!
Bunny found in a parking lot. Healthy un neutered male. We have him quarantined in our bathroom until neuter as we have a neutered male. We have let new bunny play in the garden. I came home to one weepy eye. Very wet, tiny bit of redness, otherwise quite happy. We have a vet appointment for Monday. Anything I should do until then or best let him be? I don't want to make him stay in the bathroom without access to outdoors but is that dangerous for my other bunny? The bathroom is small and for all I know being confined there could have caused an allergy or irritation. They are both vaccinated again RHD. Thank you

I would just bathe the eye with cooled boiled water or cooled black tea. The latter has mild antibacterial properties. I would not put any treatments into the eye until a Vet has examined him and checked for corneal abrasions etc.

Thank you! I've taken him out of the bathroom and his eye has steadily improved over the past two days. My living room is devastate, but ahhhh well.
