Rabbit shows?

I agree with you to some extent on that one. I hate the idea of rabbit shows but I do attend rat shows(I don't show any myself). The first thing that's looked at in a rat which will win a show is temperamant. If the rat is at all scared or angry about being there then it has no chance of winning and only relaxed well socialised rats are ever shown.

I don't see how a rabbit could be relaxed in this sort of suitation, even my most unhandleable rat (I take the ones with behavoiur problems and/or other issues) would react better in a show than any rabbit I have met to date and there is no way I would even contemplate taking her along to a show.

I visited a show last week and the same thing happened with rabbits. If they weren't relaxed they were taken out as it's not fair on them. :thumb:

 Eats his stock???? god ive never heard something so sick :( xx

can I just ask why you find it so "sick"?

Im sure farmers eat thier own stock.

(btw, i personally couldnt/ wouldnt do it...i am just courious to see why you think this thats all:))

I agree, that's awful! But I know for a fact that not all breeders are like that, and I feel sorry for the breeders on here who treat their rabbits like members of the family. They are being made out to be bad which isn't true. :(

I wont ever look at a rabbit breeder in the same way again
Its like if gracie hadnt been sold to me she would have been eaten!?! i cant even stomach the thought it makes me want to cry, i must be so naive. xx

I know what you mean, but these rabbits are being bred and kept as pets not livestock.

To be honest I hate the idea of eating animals. I do eat meat but I can't even think about where it came from. The idea of thinking 'ah, here's [name], nice and tasty'... awful. I know this is hypocritical of me because I eat meat, and I am trying to slowly phase out my meat-eating. I don't judge others for eating meat, it's just my personal opinion.

I know but its like saying oh no one wants to buy that bunny so we will eat it!
it turns my stomach, am i reading this correctly? i cant believe this happens omg.

thanks for the replys :)

NicolaTervit, thats why I dont eat meat, and i dont have a problem with other people eating, as you said. Its a personal choice/ opinion. :)

Alot of breeders dont breed rabbits to be pets, and that is why they may kill/ eat excess stock. They can be very well cared for, and some people even think that they are better off dead than the possibility of them being mistreated if sold as pets. Its just a different way of thinking. I cant understand it. but everyone is different, aslong as the rabbits are happy.

I do buy organic meat because I don't want to eat an animal that has been raised in a bad way, so I suppose... but it just doesn't sit right with me. I know rabbits raised for meat are domestic not wild, but it just really makes me feel sick. Perhaps I would feel the same if I had a pet pig or chicken.

That's how I feel too Julie :( I can't really justify it though I think is what I'm trying to say because I don't feel that way about it happening to other animals.

You know what a few years ago my neighbour across the road asked me if i wanted to see her brothers bunnies (hes a breeder) he asked me if i would consider breeding holly i of course said no way she was just due her spay she was a dutch and died after having quite a few seizures.

Anyway she told me a few weeks after i went to see the baby buns that he had that he shows them and if their colours were not correct he n***cks them

I lost all respect that day infact i hated the lot of them because it really upset me and still haunts me to this day, thing is if i had let him mate my holly and the babies were not to his liking what would he have done to them?

the rspca didnt want to know when i reported it, even now it makes me think is he still doing this?

why did they have to tell me!! xxx

I think as you knew i love rabbits it was to hurt my feelings i really do. xx

:( wouldn't surprise me. Everytime the rabbits are mentioned to the OH's mum she goes 'should have called him Stew' and laughs for ages even though she knows it will upset me. I don't really think there's any laws or anything to stop them from doing things like that :( xxxx

Yeah, my manager at work made all kinds of jokes about stuff like this, but then when the girls were at the vets he made me leave early to pick them up and kept asking how they were! So I think sometimes it is just to get a reaction or because they really think it's funny. I just refuse to react, it soon shuts them up  xxxxxxxxxxxx
