The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Rabbit -runny poo

Hello everyone,

I am new to rabbit keeping and I have two nethelanf dwarfs. I've only had them a week so far. I just picked one of them up and there was runny poo on my hands as well as under him. I am really worried. They have their first check up booked in at Wildbore for Tuesday next week. I am not sure what to do?

Thank you
Zoe

Hi!

I'm sorry your rabbit is sick. Are you taking them to Wildbores in Worksop? They are pretty good with rabbits, I take mine there. I'd probably get them seen as soon as possible rather than wait for their check-up.

What have you been feeding them? It sounds like something is upsetting your rabbits stomach. Ideally they should have a diet of mostly hay, with a few pellets (about an egg cup, maybe less for dwarves) and a some greens. Some things that people think rabbits should have are actually bad for them. Carrots are very high in sugar for rabbits and should be given in moderation. Some kinds of lettuce, such as iceberg, can be bad for them too. My rabbits prefer things like kale, cauliflower and broccoli.

This website has a helpful guide to feeding rabbits.

I would get him to a vet today. If it is true diarrhea then it is deadly for rabbits. It could be coccidiosis, since you have not had them long so a vet trip is urgent just in case.

I hope he is OK.

Hi,
Thank you both. I just panicked because he is soo small. He's fine now. I took him straight to the vets and they gave me some fibreplex to give him. I just introduce some him to his run on the lawn too fast as he was use to just eating hay. Apparently fresh grass can sometimes be too rich for them if their not use to it. Lesson learnt :)

You're absolutely right, fresh grass can be too rich if they are not used to it.

Glad he's much better now :)
