  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have two mini lops 10 months old both female (apparently) were sexed at 9 weeks old, one of the bunny’s has started making a nest with hay last wed fri we noticed som of her fur in the nest this morning there was more fur, no sign of Babies she is acted normal little less active if anything, could this be a false pregnancy or should I be preparing for arrival of babies.

Impossible to say without being able to check the genders of the Rabbits myself. If neither are neutered and there is even the slightest doubt that they are both female you need to get this established. It will be obvious if you have a buck by now, his testicles will be visible. If you have a buck and a doe then the doe is probably pregnant. You would need to separate the two IMMEDIATELY, if they remain together when the doe kindles the buck will impregnate her again straight away.

If you have two does then it’ll be a pseudopregnancy. Both does should be spayed, not only to prevent distressing recurrent pseudopregnancies but also to prevent uterine adenocarcinoma in later life. 80% of entire does develop uterine abnormalities by the age of 5, sometimes much younger.
