New to this forum, need help, EMERGENCY

yes I'm sure she just needs spaying, if you can catch her :? It's sometimes hard to find a decent bunny vet in the US too - you need one specialising in exotics and they need special care compared to cats or dogs - different anaesthetics etc.

Does she have a rote she uses to escape when you chase her? Often rabbits will keep to a set path and you can use this to catch them because you can predict where they will run. If you set netting (a sheet will work) parallel to the route (string to hang it/bricks something heavy to weigh the bottom) you can close in the end and chase her into a 'pen'. It has to look open when she runs in.

The other option would be to call the rspca/cats protection or wildlife sanctuary and ask to borrow a humane (cat) trap. You can buy rabbit traps but I don't know whether anywhere local to you will have them instock otherwise it's a couple of days ordering them.

You could try one of your own with a carrier with food in, a bit of string to the door and in through a window so you can pull it closed without being seen. Test it first though, you'll need to be stood behind and to one side to get the door to close. Again look for a path she follows and put it on that to increase the odds of her going in :)

This is getting very annoying!!! Still havent caught her. I like the boxing her in idea with lots of people and using a playpen at the same time, my problem now is no one is willing to help! People in the US, at least around here arent much into buns.

I've been reading on the website all day & I have to say all of you are so nice!! I go to a US website like this for saltwater fish hobbyists and people are not always as pleasant. I'm really glad I found this forum. So different than the US!!! Can I move there???:D

I live in Asheville, NC for who asked. Still getting used to how to do things on this forum (like posting quotes & answering the post directly). Would like to post pics of my bun too, but it says I cant post attachments. Havent had time to learn because I'm chasing a bunny!!

Please tell me its hormones causing her to act like this!!! I love her so much, but it gets really tiring taking care of a pet that totally hates you.

Yeah!!!!!!!!!! I Caught Her!!!!

Finally! She back in the house safe!! I caught her by myself too!! There was a large piece of plywood leaning against our garage and she went behind it so I positioned it so she couldnt get out the other end so she had no choice but to come to me, it was the only way out. She wasnt happy, but oh well. She'll thank me later. Now I've got to go feed her & spoil her some more. Thank you everyone for all your help & suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I will be back on here again cause you guys are the best!!!

Hooray- glad she is safe ! :D
well done...and welcome to the forum:)
Do come back with some nice pics of your bunny?
-Sue-

is that her on your avatar pic?

I had one once that was very hard to catch when he didn't want to come inside. I would leave a trail of food leading into the front door then sneak up from behind and close the door once she is inside eating the food. Leave a large amount of the special treat beyond the door so you can close the door. Hope this works for you. It did always work for me but you have to be quick before she notices you.

Oh, I was too slow but I am very happy that you caught her. I am also new to this forum. I have a Californian named Julie. Thank goodness she is not a runner.

only just caught this but so glad you caught her. my little jack used to run circles around me but we figured out a way to trap her to catch her

can't wait to see photos of her  and so glad she's home safe:D

Finally I can sleep tonite!!! I hope you all dont mind me intruding being from the US. After going through all this & the support I received kinda makes me ashamed of where I'm from.
Since I have had my bun there is only a few websites that you can really get real info from. I know there are a few who try so hard, but buns just arent that big around here. Websites with loads of info, but no on hand experience. I love my bunny & have never found anyone (or at least a website like this) that can relate here in the US. I cant wait to learn more.

I am also having a hard time finding a vet for a bun. I am just trying to get her spayed for now, but what if an emergency happens? Geez

Anyway I am so happy right now, even if she hates it. So what, spoiled little :censored:

By the way, can anyone tell me why I can't post her pics on here?

Yes, that is my bun with her best friend Grey on my avatar. The cat loves her & likes to stay in her cage with her. They are the best of buddies, go figure!!! If I could only get the cat to eat hay :D

 cats eating hay!

and dont apologise for where you're from. i'm living in Brunei at the moment but I still come on here every day. We have lots of members from the US :)

as for finding a good vet I would just ring around everywhere, ask tehm as many questions as you can think of (dont be frightened to ask how many patients they have lost doing the procedure): what the aftercare is like, if you are required to take in your own food (always a good thing due to delicate stomachs), if teh bunnies are kept separate from other animals like dogs and cats, do they have individual heat mats/pads in each cage etc... just ask away - if they are good enough they mgiht get your business... and as for emergencies, any decent vet should have books filed away so even if they are not sure the best course they can at least look it up.

as for uploading photos. you have to use a site like photobucket (i dont know any others  ) and then copy across the url with IMG tags like this (spaces added so you can see what I've actually written rather than the photo itself)... often places will give you the option of the code with IMG already on it (photobucket does this)...

So this:

Becomes this (when you remove the spaces):

Glad you managed to catch your bunny!

If you contact one of the rabbit rescues in NC they'll be able to tell you which vets are rabbit-savvy, here's a list of some of the general rescues, pick out the ones that specialise in rabbits and maybe they'll tell you the ones they use for their buns http://www.adoptapet.com/RABBITS/US/NC/NAME/1

And a list of possible vets http://www.rabbitsonline.net/view_topic.php?id=11623&forum_id=9 and http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/Vet_NC.html

Hope that helps, and welcome to the forum :)

woohoo! you got her!! :p brilliant news - and never mind apologising - we have quite a few members here from the States, but the time difference can mean it's a bit quiet for you sometimes as we're all in bed :)

This is a good website to pin to favourites, which I've learnt loads from - American info on it might be useful to you - there's a couple of links near the bottom of the health section - one on spay/neuter says how to go about finding a good rabbit vet in the US, and the other is a vet questionnaire http://www.mybunny.org/info/lit_1.htm

Congratulations on catching her!! This is a great forum, you will learn sooo much! To echo what somebody else said, it is a little quiet on here at night because of the time difference but I'm always around it seems :lol:

Bunspace (www.bunspace.com) seems to have a lot of bunny mad people from the USA on it - and also they help with lists of rabbit savvy vets.

But don't forget to come and chat to us on Rabbits United as well!

Hiya,

Glad to hear you got her in the end! :) They do get cheeky!

I don't think that link you put up worked, came up as an error. You can post pics on the forum using an Image Link on the photo website and paste it into a new post :)

Love to see your bun :D

x Anna
