  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neutering advice

Young Bun
We have been looking at vets to neuter our bunny Reese, who is currently 9.5 weeks old. For his vaccinations he was taken to Vets4Pets in Shelfield who charged us £67 for the triple vac (Manor Pets quoted £82.80). We have decided to join Manor Pets as they have the gold rating and are very rabbit savvy. My question is, should we take Reese to Manor Pets for the neutering (£106) or take him to Vets4Pets (£85) or another vet (open to recommendations if you feel these costs are high) for the neutering and then join Manor pets?

For info we live in Walsall.

Personally I'd go to Manor Vets, well worth the extra fee of £21.00 for a very Rabbit Savvy Practice :) IME Vets4Pets can be very hit and miss as far as 'Rabbit Savviness' goes. Some may be really good, others beyond awful.

Also, just another personally opinion but I am not one for 'Vet hopping'. I prefer o find a Rabbit Savvy Vet whom I feel I can trust and stick with them. IMO continuity of care and the building of a trusting and mutually respectful working relationship with a Vet is very important.

I agree with all of this:thumb:

I agree also!

Thanks everyone. I totally agree with the vet hopping comment. The gold rating with Manor Pets is definetly a plus point for going with them and paying that bit extra.

I think I was doubting myself after comments on another thread about vaccs costs. As these costs are totally new to me I have no idea what the norm is. Thanks for the guidance :)

Some Vets offer a 'Healthy Pet' plan where the client pays a monthly DD that covers things like vaccinations and some health checks. I'd ask if Manor Vets offer a plan for Rabbits, it can work out cheaper overall :)
I dont know if you have your Bunny insured ? Obviously Insurance does not cover Vaccination or Neutering costs, but I would seriously consider taking out Insurance to cover for other things as now-a-days Vet fees can be astronomical. Especially if 'out of hours' Veterinary care is needed, or Specialist referrals.
