As the post says.

3 of the horses were out in the field yesterday when a woman walked along the marina with 2 rottweilers off the lead. They ran into the field and attacked my 30 year old shetland.
I wasn't there but my auntie who lives there rang me to say Silver was in a bad way. A man had tried to help while the woman stood screaming.
I called the vet and went down and the poor lad was a mess. He suffered from laminitis so wouldn't have stood a chance.
the vet stitched him up and gave him pain relief. I spent the night with him but he was in shock and just gave in.
I called the vet back and she agreed the best thing would be to let him go.

he was old but he shouldn't have gone that way. I told the dogs owner today that I would be taking it further with her.

He was a failed foster I took in over 20 years ago, I'm heartbroken he died like this.

Oh my god, that is horrific I am so sorry.
I can't even imagine how you must be feeling. I am glad you could be with him at the end.
I would also take this further no dogs should be that out of control but especially not big ones that can kill.
I am so sorry, RIP poor little pony. Xx

How awful. :( Your poor pony. Why on Earth were those dogs off the lead?

I would take it further too, but I would not want the dog's to be pts. The owner is the one that needs to be punished. Clearly she had absolutely no control over them and had no idea how to handle them when they ran after your pony. Big dogs need an owner that knows how to deal with them otherwise something like this happens.

Rest in peace, Silver.

I am so sorry :(

Yes I agree you should take this all the way. It was not the dogs fault but they should be taken away from her and she should be punished  why have such big dogs if you can't control them?

I'm so very sorry . What a devastating thing to have to go through. I can't imagine how I'd feel :(. Please do take it further as this woman needs to be punished for her lack of control and responsibility.

I am so sorry -

two dogs together may get over excited and more difficult to control. My parents had two German Shepherds they adopted from a rescue (after having single GSDs for many years). The two would sort of 'egg each other on' so to speak and ended up ripping into the neighbours elderly cat. After that they rehomed one of the pair, and they were both much easier to handle singly and there was never an event like that again.

I would agree that this does need to be taken much further before they do it to another animal or a child.

A farmer would automatically shoot any dog found worrying or attacking livestock.

After warning the owner a few times to control their dog which kept chasing their hens, my neighbour shot warning shots (above the head) of the dog when it next did it. From then on the owner kept it under control on the lead.

We live next to a very popular bridlepath where lots of dog owners walk - and the neighbours have a very large garden of c5 acres so fencing totally against any dog is impossible.

We are currently in a similar situation as the small meadow between us and the bridlepath currently only has a hedge and during winter the hedge is very gappy and we cant afford dog proof fencing all round it.

This is so tragic and so very very sad. I just can't find words  I am so sorry

Sweet dreams Silver xx

How sad :( you must feel so awful.

I definitely think you need to take it further and get this woman punished, but it was not the dogs fault as others said. Hopefully authorities can see that.

I'm so sorry :( Shetlands are such characters, and after 20 years I can't begin to imagine how you feel. RIP lil' Silver.

Thankyou everyone.
I have 2 large rottie x breeds myself and despite everything I don't want these dogs pts. I agree the owner should face the consequences. Big dogs are a responsibility and needs to be socialised and controlled properly.
I know someone who is heavily involved with the rottweiler association and they are willing to take them in if needs be.

At the moment I just feel numb. :(

I'm not surprised. To lose any animal is heartbreaking but to lose one in such shocking circumstances is tragic. My heart goes out to you, it really does .
